Hamsho returns to Damascus and settles
Mohammed Hamcho signs a comprehensive settlement with the interim government (announced 6–7 January), under which the state's illicit-gain commission recovered roughly $800 million in funds and assets; reporting frames the settlement at around one billion US dollars. The National Commission for Transitional Justice issued a statement on the deal on 8 January, amid public criticism — sharpened by his sons Ahmad and Amr having pledged $1 million to the state-backed Syrian Development Fund.
