Syrian businessman from Latakia, sanctioned by the US, EU, UK and Switzerland since 2012-2015 for leading the pro-regime "Suqur al-Sahraa" (Desert Hawks) and "Maghawir al-Bahr" (Marine Commandos) militias, and for interests in steel, oil trading and media: Al Jazira/El Jazireh (oil imports), Dunia TV and Sama Satellite Channel. Began in smuggling at Latakia port before building ties to the Assad family; partner in Rami Makhlouf's Cham Holding. In 2017 his militias were disarmed by the 4th Division and absorbed into the Russian-backed 5th Corps; his assets were seized on 27 April 2021. This conflicts with the Chairman attribution to Mohammed Hamcho on syrian-council-metals-steel and is unresolved.
